Well a year later and I had yet to receive a reply, so I emailed them back and asked if anyone was still working there. Here’s what they had to say:
Dear Mr. Levesque:
Thank you for taking the time to contact Imperial Oil.
We apologize that the email that you sent did not get a response. The
e-mail that you sent must have been misinterprated by the representative
that received your e-mail.
The problem that you are referring to is a common issue when the weather
starts getting cool. When an area experiences moderate temperature drops
from day to night, the fuel in the hoses will contract. This causes the
pump to count usually 20-50 cents on the display without any fuel dispensed
from the nozzle. The pump is actually re-pressurizing the hose. This
commonly happens a lot first thing in the morning “Morning Sickness” when
the pump has been sitting for a while. You still end up receiving the
correct amount of fuel at the correct price once the fill-up is complete.
Thank you again for contacting us.
Note: When responding to this message, please use reply to keep the email
thread intact. We need to see the information on previous e-mails to

Is this truly what happens? Could be. Some testing would have to be done to determine if this is really what happens, however I don’t have the time to test it. Maybe i’ll go back occasionally if I have to, and just keep an eye on it, and see what happens.
I’m happy with the response though. At least I know she read my message, unlike the first response I got over a year ago.
